If you are walking or riding on the path between Lyndoch and the Surf Life Saving Club please take care. The Warrnambool Ratepayers Association has been contacted and supplied with images showing the appalling condition of the path and stairs.
We immediately sent a number of images to the Warrnambool City Council stating that we were concerned about the potential for injury.
This is the reply we received
Thank you for raising these issues with Council.
We have registered these concerns in our customer request system and an officer will shortly inspect the sites for compliance against our Road Management Plan intervention levels. As you would be aware, this plan sets out the mechanism through which footpath defects are prioritised and programmed for repair.
We have had a big program of footpath replacement this year, however we still have a long way to go in addressing the asset funding gap that has existed in footpaths for many years.
All ratepayers dug a little deeper into their pockets last year with the Council breaking of the rate cap, the extra monies raised were to go to footpaths.
The WRA was recently alerted to the fact that some perfectly good footpaths were being dug up and replaced with ones that are slightly wider. Surely the footpaths that are in such a bad condition should be replaced before we go digging up existing ones to make them wider.
